A studio that grows with them
For Gresham families, the right dance class is about more than a convenient activity. It is a place where a child can feel known, move with confidence, make friends, and discover what they can do. Deborah Messinger School of Dance has served Gresham-area families for decades and now welcomes dancers at its larger Troutdale studio.
DMSD offers structured, caring instruction from a dancer’s first creative-movement class through more advanced training. Teachers meet students where they are, then give them a clear next step. That makes the studio a welcoming choice for the child who cannot stop dancing in the kitchen and for the returning student who wants to keep building skill.
New students are welcome year-round. A free class visit lets your family see the room, meet the teacher, and get personal guidance before making a commitment.

Classes for every stage
Every stage of dance has a different job. Early classes make movement joyful and familiar. School-age classes build technique, coordination, and confidence. Teen and adult options give dancers room to challenge themselves, reconnect with dance, and keep growing.

More than a drop-off
Children do their best learning when they feel safe enough to try, miss a step, and try again. DMSD pairs professional instruction with a warm, family-minded atmosphere. Dancers are challenged without being pushed into a one-size-fits-all experience.
That approach has shaped the school for more than 55 years. Families can expect clear communication, teachers who pay attention, and a studio culture that values steady progress as much as polished performance. Recital opportunities are part of the experience, but participation is always optional.
For parents, the larger Troutdale space offers a welcoming place to arrive, watch, and settle in while their dancer is in class. It is practical, personal, and built around helping families make dance a lasting part of life.
Your first visit
There is no need to guess at the right style, buy everything in advance, or commit before your dancer has been in the room. A free visit gives you a low-pressure way to see what the class feels like and ask the questions that matter to your family.
Before the visit, check the schedule for current times and use the free class form to share your dancer’s age and interest. The studio will help identify the best option and confirm a trial time. Then all your dancer needs is comfortable clothing and a willingness to move.
